A parent-led organisation representing children and young people with speech and language impairments. It works for their inclusion in society and supports their parents and carers. Afasic Cymru is a membership organisation providing a telephone helpline, conferences, publications and support through local groups.

Autism Cymru

Autism Cymru is Wales’ National Charity for Autism. It has worked in collaboration with others in the public and voluntary sector to influence major policy changes. Autism Cymru encouraged the Welsh Assembly Government to establish the world’s first government-led strategy for autism. Autism Cymru has offices in Cardiff, Aberystwyth and Wrexham.

British Deaf Association (BDA)

The BDA is the UK’s largest national organisation run by Deaf people, for Deaf people. The BDA works to increase Deaf people’s access to facilities and lifestyles that most hearing people take for granted, and ensures greater awareness of their rights and responsibilities as members of society. The BDA has several main service areas, with teams covering: education; BSL; video production; and community services offering advice and help. They have a national helpline that provides information and advice on a range of subjects including Welfare Rights, benefits and the Disability Discrimination Act.

Children in Wales is the national umbrella organisation for those working with children and young people in Wales and our aims are to promote the interests of these groups and take action to meet their needs. We are a registered charity and an independent non-governmental organisation.

Contact a Family Cymru

Contact a Family is a UK-wide charity providing support, advice and information for families with disabled children. They run a helpline for family members. Contact a Family can also help you get in touch with other parents of disabled children living near you.

National association of disabled people’s organisations, striving to achieve the rights, equality and independence of disabled people in Wales.

Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) Wales

The Down’s Syndrome Association provides information and support on all aspects of living with Down’s syndrome. They also work to champion the rights of people with Down’s syndrome, by campaigning for change and challenging discrimination. A wide range of Down’s Syndrome Association publications can be downloaded free of charge from their website. Printed copies are available for a small fee. Single copies of most leaflets and information sheets are available free of charge to members.

Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence (ERIC)

Provides support and information for children and their families on childhood bedwetting, daytime wetting, soiling and constipation.

Epilepsy Wales

Epilepsy Wales aims to help improve the lives of people with epilepsy, their families and carers by providing: Information & advice; Direct support from Fieldworkers; Raising public awareness and understanding.

Family Fund

An independent organisation funded by government administrations of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The Fund can give grants and information to families caring for a severely disabled or seriously ill child under 16.

National Association of Toy and Leisure Libraries Wales

Supports all toy libraries across the UK that loan toys and play equipment to all children. Can also advise on suitable play resources for children based on their age and stage of development. You can ring the helpline to find your nearest toy library and to give advice on setting up a toy library.

National Autistic Society (NAS) Wales

Formed in the 1962, the National Autistic Society (NAS) is a UK based charity for people with autism, including Asperger syndrome, their parents and carers The NAS champions the rights and interests of all people with autism and to ensure that they and their families receive quality services, appropriate to their needs. The NAS has a regional office in Wales.

A 24-hour nurse advice and health information service, providing confidential information on what to do if you or your family are feeling ill, have particular health conditions, or need local health care services or self-help and support organisations.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Cymru

RNIB education services work to ensure children and adults with sight problems gain access to the best education opportunities at home, school, university and in the wider community. RNIB Cymru provides a range of services for children who are visually impaired including those who have additional needs. These services include information, advice and guidance, training, consultancy, independent specialist assessments, vacation schemes, family weekends and activity days.

Sense Cymru

The major UK voluntary organisation for children and adults born with multisensory impairment (MSI) and their families. The website has information about the help and services available to children with MSI, their families and professionals.

For brothers and sisters of children and people with special needs, disability or chronic illness. Their purpose is to make a positive difference to the lives of siblings – to make growing up with someone with special needs a bit easier.

SNAP Cymru is a Charity that offers information and support to families of children and young people who have special educational needs. These may be additional learning needs or disability. SNAP Cymru provides Parent Partnership Services in Wales.
